kofax-jpg-logoOur coverage of Kofax Transform 2012 continues. The two most important announcements were Kofax's entry into the Business Process Management space (BPM) and Kofax Capture v10 updates.

I'm very interested in Kofax's entry into the BPM space and plan to share my thoughts with you in a future post.

But, for now, I'm sharing with customers my thoughts on some reasons why Kofax v10 would be worth implementing. In Why Should I Implement Kofax Capture version 10 (part one) I covered:

    • The business case for implementing v10
    • Recommendations for net new installs and migration scenarios for those of you with earlier versions of Kofax Capture
    • Two compelling reasons to use v10: accelerated adoption/productivity and intelligent workflow processing

There are two other compelling reasons to consider using Kofax Capture v10 and they have to do with a new Validation Thin Client and centralized infrastructure and configuration management using VRS.

Validation Thin Client

With v10 Yakidoo customers can allow users from anywhere to access and use Kofax Capture via a new Validation Thin Client. This eliminates the need to use Thin Client software (like Citrix) or set up VPN access to deploy Kofax Capture for remote locations and users. Some key advantages of web access, include:

    • Easier to implement Kofax in a distributed environment with no need to install the software locally or worry about deploying a standard image on users desktops/laptops. Local support is no longer required.
    • Allows for secure Internet access making it possible to validate scanned documents remotely.
    • Helps enterprises introduce a "cloud like" service exposing them to the value of remote web access to a business service. This can help build a business case to transferring more of the infrastructure to the cloud over time.
    • Eliminates IT overhead such as additional technologies (Thin Client and/or VPN software and hardware) and costs associated with them.

By using the Validation Thin Client one government organization was able to employ people in remote and rural communities to conduct scan validation tasks.

Central Management of VRS

You may be familiar with Kofax's industry leading Virtual ReScan software or VRS. This software does some pretty slick things like strip out colours, re-orient scanned images and distinguish between ink speckles and decimals in a mortgage application (you don't want to miss a decimal point for a loan!). To learn more about VRS watch some of Kofax's videos here

The problem IT departments have had in the past is ensuring that new and existing scanners are optimally configured to ensure productive data capture. VRS is the industry leading software for document clean up. But, the key to using it successfully is how it's configured to make sure that most, if not all, documents that are scanned capture the most data without errors and exceptions. With Kofax Capture v10 you can now:

    • Configure and automate existing and new scanner configurations centrally across your organization to ensure optimal colour separation, document rotation and overall cleanup
    • In the past once you determined the ideal configuration you'd have to copy those configs onto each scanner one at a time. You no longer need to do this...it happens automatically for existing scanners and new ones brought online.

The Validation Thin Client and improvements to VRS make it much easier for IT departments to manage, support and deploy best in class capture environments with less technical overhead and potentially at a lower cost.
